Mr. Angst just received an email from an HR person asking him to forward his resume.

She also asked him to include a list of all prior compensation packages he’s ever received. AND his current compensation package requirements.

Can you say effing lazy? Lazy, lazy, lazy HR person.

    Not lazy… Most of the time, information like that has to come from the candidate, because former employers *won’t* give it out. The HR person doesn’t have any other way of getting it. In fact, in some places, they can’t legally give it out. I suppose the HR person could use industry averages… but if Mr. Angst is above average (as I suspect he is) it’s definitely to his benefit to provide them with info about what *he* is really worth, not what some average ding-bat is worth….

    Oh, I know, Dave. I totally respect that HR people often have no one else to ask but the prospective employee. But this isn’t Mr. Angst out looking for a job change–she got his name from his graduate school. So any prior compensation packages (i.e., before advanced degree) won’t really be worth much for comparative value. Plus, the *way* she asked for it…the language was really obnoxious.
