it's Oktober!

October 3, 2005

Mr. Angst and I had a lovely weekend away. The weather was a little warmer than it should have been, but so what? We drank beer, ate brats, and spent time with his cousins. We met a new baby in the family, one with a little mohawk (hair won’t grow on the sides of her head because of the way she uses it for leverage to roll over). We stayed with his aunt and ate apple pie and flapjacks and just enjoyed being away.

There’s something totally unique about Oktoberfests, especially when they’re in smallish towns and cities. The population of the town we were in triples during Oktoberfest. The local brewery makes a special “Festbier.” The parade is four miles long. Basically, it’s just fun—and it’s more fun when you spend it with people you don’t get to see very often. So even though the drive there and back took an hour more than it should have—leaving, we hit rush hour and coming home, traffic backed up at the toll booths—we really enjoyed ourselves.

Of course, less than 30 minutes into the trip on Friday, I felt my throat start to itch and, by Saturday morning, I was in full-blown cold mode. I’m not convinced, actually, that it was a cold. I think it started as an allergy of some kind and some OTC allergy medication kept it at bay until Sunday afternoon. That’s when I started sweating. I took my temperature and sure enough—I had a fever. So I took it easy last night, finished up my Civ Pro reading for today, and went to bed early.

And now I’m up, ready for a new week. My early class was cancelled for today, so I got to sleep in a bit and continue recovering from my sinus thing, and I actually have time to post this morning! I hope the rest of the week is so smooth.
